Terem Moffi Left Out of Nigeria's AFCON 2023 Squad
The Nigerian forward and top scorer for Nice has officially been left out of the AFCON 2023 squad, despite having a solid season in Ligue 1. He's the team's leading goal scorer with six goals and sits second on the overall league table.
With Moffi absent from the call-up list, Nice's head coach, Francesco Farioli, spoke about it, expressing some happiness by saying, 'Clearly, he's been our best January acquisition.'
When asked about Moffi's mood and situation, the Italian coach replied, 'Two feelings at the same time. Firstly, we were disappointed because we knew how much Terem valued representing his nation, his family, friends, and his country. It was a disappointment that directly affected him and indirectly impacted us. We're very happy to have him here. He has a great mentality, he's ready, and he's available for the team. I saw him very focused and determined this week. So, I believe the disappointment has passed, and he's very focused,' stated Nice's coach.
Moffi will aim to overcome this setback faced due to the fierce competition in Nigeria's Eagles attack with Victor Osihmen, Victor Boniface, among others. Now, the forward will strive to maintain the good form he's in at his club to contend for the Ligue 1 title and add more goals to his individual tally.
