Balogun Assists as Monaco Secure Victory over Rennes
Stade Rennes suffered their second consecutive defeat, falling to Monaco at Roazhon Park (1-2), a result that brings them closer to the relegation zone in Ligue 1.
Julien Stephan's side took a harsh blow. Rennes is in free fall, unable to capitalize on their superiority in the last quarter of an hour when the Monegasque team was reduced to ten men due to the double yellow card expulsion of the Brazilian Vanderson, who had precisely put his team ahead in the 51st minute by beating Steve Mandanda after receiving a ball from Folarin Balogun.
Despite being a man down, Monaco sealed the game five minutes from the end. Balogun once again appeared, assisting Youssouf Fofana for the second goal.
Stade Rennes could only score from the penalty spot, with Benjamin Bourigeaud converting in the final minute.
The victory places Monaco in second, ahead of Nice and three points behind Paris Saint-Germain. Stade Rennes, currently twelfth, is just three points clear of the relegation zone.
