Thibaut Courtois's Record-Breaking Performance: Will He Start at Wembley?
The Real Madrid goalkeeper shone against Alaves with a long list of saves and knocks on the door for the Champions League final XI.
Thibaut Courtois needed only three games to return to his best form after a long absence. Three games to prove that he remains, as Ancelotti would say, the best goalkeeper in the world.
The Belgian goalkeeper shone in Real Madrid's victory against Alaves (5-0). He kept a clean sheet and did so with a series of outstanding saves. Courtois made a remarkable 10 saves during the match.
It was a record-breaking performance. Firstly, no goalkeeper had made as many saves in a LaLiga match without conceding a goal since Iker Casillas did so against Real Zaragoza in January 2008. More than 16 years had passed since anyone repeated such an exhibition between the posts.
Courtois set a record for saves without conceding in a match that no one else has surpassed this season, only matched, in the top five European leagues. However, will it be enough to convince Carlo Ancelotti that the Belgian should start in the Champions League final on June 1st?
He has certainly earned merit. Ancelotti will undoubtedly remember Courtois' performance against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final. Courtois or Lunin? It's a tough decision for Ancelotti.
