Sergio Ramos Headed to the MLS?
Spanish footballer Sergio Ramos, whose contract with Sevilla will expire at the end of this season, is in "advanced talks" with San Diego, a franchise set to debut in the MLS in 2025, as reported on Monday by "The Athletic," citing sources close to the potential signing.
Sergio Ramos, a two-time European champion and World Cup winner with the Spanish national team, is the man chosen by San Diego to sign as a "designated player," a status that grants access to the most coveted contracts in terms of pay in the MLS, according to the same source.
The news has been reported in the United States by outlets such as the New York Times and NBC, among others, although it's worth noting that the deal has not yet been finalized or completed.
San Diego will make their MLS debut in February 2025. The American league has a different schedule compared to European leagues, running from late February to December each year.
Ramos, at 38 years old, won everything during his successful career at Real Madrid, where he joined in 2005 and left in 2021 after securing, among other trophies, four UEFA Champions League titles.
