Frenkie de Jong Sprains Ankle and Could Miss Rest of Season
The midfielder was injured during the Clásico at the Bernabéu after a challenge with Valverde. This is his third right ankle injury of the season.
Dutch player Frenkie de Jong, according to a statement from the Barcelona club, suffered a right ankle sprain that forced him to be substituted during the Clásico held at Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday, effectively ending his season.
While the severity of the sprain and the recovery timeline for the midfielder have not yet been determined by Barcelona, it is estimated that De Jong could be out for about a month, which is the remaining time until the end of the season.
The Dutchman sustained the injury during a challenge with Real Madrid's Fede Valverde. The right ankle has been a recurring issue for De Jong this season, marking the third time he has injured it.
In March, he experienced problems with the same ankle, causing him to miss a month due to a lateral ligament sprain. Earlier, in September, he injured the right ankle against Celta and was out for two months.
The exact duration of his absence from the field remains to be seen. He may have said goodbye to the season with Barcelona. However, his participation in the upcoming Euro 2024 with the Netherlands does not seem to be at risk for Frenkie de Jong.
