Palestino returned to Chilean soil at home to defend a 2-0 lead they obtained in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Phase 3 against Club Nacional. Palestino won it on penalties 3-1 to qualify for the Group Stage of the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores.

The first half saw the Paraguayan club determined to mount a comeback away from home. Despite a missed penalty, they found a goal in the dying moments to set the tone for the rest of the match, leading 1-0 at halftime.

The second half showcased a Club Nacional ready to mount a comeback, first scoring the 2-0 to level the tie in the 48th minute, and then adding a second goal through Juan Fernando Alfaro twenty minutes later to make it 3-0 (3-2 on aggregate).

However, Palestino, spurred on by their fans at the Estadio Municipal, managed to score a goal that made it 3-1 on the night and 3-3 on aggregate, sending the match to a penalty shootout.

In the penalty shootout, Palestino secured their spot in the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores 2024 Group Stage with a 3-1 victory, while Club Nacional's dreams were shattered despite scoring three goals, as they were eliminated from the tournament.
