Uruguayan Forward Surpasses Cristiano and Messi in 2024 Goal Tally
When it comes to the number of goals, it's inevitable that the names of Messi, Cristiano, Haaland, or Mbappé appear in the conversation. However, the top goal scorer of 2024 is none of them. It's him: Martín Cauteruccio.
The Uruguayan forward of Sporting Cristal in Peru has become the leading goal scorer in the world after reaching 17 goals so far this year.
He reached this figure in just seven official matches with his club, scoring four hat-tricks along the way. Of those 17 goals, 13 were scored in the Liga1 of Peru, and the other four in the Copa Libertadores qualification against Bolivia's Always Ready.
It's an impressive streak of efficiency in front of the goal, allowing him to equal his maximum number of goals scored in an entire year in just two months.
He has 10 months ahead to continue making history. The challenge now is to surpass the 43 goals scored by Emanuel Herrera in 2018, which until today remains the record for a Sporting Cristal player. However, he will have to do it in the domestic league, as his four goals against the Bolivian Always Ready did not prevent the Peruvian team from being eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.
