Legendary Brazilian footballer Romário, a key member of Brazil's 1994 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, recently voiced his expectations for the upcoming Copa Libertadores 2023 final in an interview with the Brazilian daily, O Globo.
The grand finale of the Copa Libertadores is scheduled for Saturday, November 4th. It will be aired exclusively on beIN SPORTS starting at 3:30 PM Eastern Time and 12:30 PM Pacific Time.
Fluminense, the club Romário has a connection with, will be one of the contenders. He made his sentiments about the matchup quite clear.
"Fluminense should win. As for the Argentines, f**k them! That's just how it is, and Boca will take in the ***." said the star who has been involved in the politics of his country and is now also a candidate for the presidency of the América RJ club. "I have been a Fluminense fan since I was born – metaphorically speaking since he supports America. I played for Fluminense, I'm from Rio, I hold affection for the team; it has the most charming fans I've ever come across, and truly, it's the best team that deserves to win."
Romário, who also boasts of winning titles in Copa América 1998 and FIFA Confederations Cup in 1997, spoke highly of the current Fluminense coach and interim head coach of the Brazilian national team, Fernando Diniz.
"To be honest," began Romário, "First, I want to commend Ednaldo Rodrigues, the president of CBF, for making a stellar choice in Diniz. He's the best coach we have right now." Romário's affiliation with Fluminense dates back to 2002-2004 when he had a brief stint with the club. He added, "Given the time constraints, he hasn't been able to replicate at the national level what he's achieved with the club. His strength lies in training and bringing together players. Despite the recent draw and loss, one can't win them all. But I can confidently say, in my humble opinion, the Brazilian national team is in great hands with Diniz at the helm."
