Xabi Alonso is Unbeatable
Once again, and now up to 48 consecutive matches (excluding five friendlies), Bayer Leverkusen maintained its unbeaten record after a 1-5 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, preserving an immaculate trajectory in a season that hints at a treble.
The aura surrounding Xabi Alonso is becoming legendary. Step by step, he nears the fifty-match mark without knowing defeat. An astounding figure that, of course, translates into titles. For now, he has the Bundesliga in his pocket; he's also on the brink of the Europa League final after a 0-2 win against Roma in the first leg of the semifinals; and on May 25th, they will face a Second Division team, Kaiserslautern, in the German Cup final.
However, amidst all the praise and success, Bayer Leverkusen needed a calm day in the Bundesliga. The last two matches, against Borussia Dortmund (1-1) and Stuttgart (2-2), ended miraculously in a draw, with last-minute goals that saved the German team's unbeaten record 'in extremis', and they achieved it by thrashing Frankfurt 1-5.
