Bayer Leverkusen Pays Tribute to Toni Kroos
Bayer Leverkusen has honored German midfielder Toni Kroos, recognizing him as one of the greatest German footballers of all time, on the day he announced his retirement after the Euro 2024.
On social media platform X, the club paid tribute to their former player, calling him "one of the best German footballers of all time." "We bow to your career. You’re always welcome under the cross," the message concluded.
Toni Kroos played for Leverkusen for a season and a half, from January 2009 to June 2010, under the management of Bruno Labbadia first and later Jupp Heynckes, who would go on to coach Kroos at Bayern Munich.
During this period, he also made his debut for the German national team in March 2010 in a friendly against Argentina. During his time with the red-and-black club, he played 48 matches, scored 10 goals, and left a lasting impression, as demonstrated by their tribute on the eve of their Europa League final against Atalanta.
