The Historic Upset of English Teams in Europe
Despite the Premier League's reputation as the best league in the world and the stature of several of its teams, this year saw a surprising turn of events in European competitions.
For the first time since the 2014-15 season, no English representative will be in the Champions League or Europa League semi-finals, marking a significant setback.
In the Champions League, both Manchester City and Arsenal (the top two teams in the Premier League) were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, respectively. Additionally, Manchester United and Newcastle failed to advance past the group stage.
In the Europa League, Liverpool suffered a painful elimination against Atalanta, while West Ham fell to the season's sensation, Bayer Leverkusen. The only English team still alive in Europe is Aston Villa, who have reached the semi-finals of the Conference League.
