Olivier Giroud Signs With LAFC
Los Angeles FC officially announced on Tuesday the signing of French striker Olivier Giroud, a World Cup champion with France in 2018, who will leave Milan at the end of the current season to join the sporting project in MLS.
Following the departure of their star player, Mexican Carlos Vela, at the end of the last season, LAFC bolstered their attack with a player they consider "the ideal number 9", capable of bringing international experience and enhancing the players around him, as stated by the club's general manager, John Thorrington, commenting on the news.
"What Olivier will bring us from day one is his professionalism, as well as his human qualities and leadership. He's a winner, a champion, and he will give a lot to the young players who are developing and trying to achieve the same success he has had," said Thorrington.
"Then there are his qualities on the field. We needed this position this season. It was clear in December and January that it wouldn't be possible to sign him until this summer, but he was the ideal signing and that's why we were prepared to wait," he added.
Giroud, who announced his departure from Milan on Monday, arrives in MLS after a successful career in European football, winning the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea, as well as Serie A with Milan, among other trophies.
At 37, Giroud was a crucial player for Milan under coach Stefano Pioli, scoring 48 goals in three seasons.
