Zinedine Zidane Turned Down a Mega-Money Deal to Coach Algeria
Zinedine Zidane, one of the most sought-after coaches in the world as a free agent, turned down a big-money offer to take on the role of head coach for Algeria, as reported by the French newspaper L’Équipe.
The offer from the Algerian Football Federation comes after their coach, Djamel Belmadi, got sacked following their elimination in the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the continent's premier competition, which they won two editions ago in 2019.
According to the French media, the former Real Madrid coach and three-time UEFA Champions League winner is planning to wait for an offer from France to become their head coach, as it's the only national team he'd like to manage. The coach, who has Algerian roots, has also turned down two offers, one from Brazil and another from the United States.
