Historical Overview: Ivory Coast vs. Nigeria in Africa Cup of Nations
The host nation Ivory Coast will face Nigeria during the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations this Sunday, February 11th, a match you can exclusively enjoy on beIN SPORTS.
In the history of continental competition, they have met eight times with a record of three victories for Nigeria, two for Ivory Coast, and two draws. However, there is a favorable fact for the "Super Eagles", as in the three AFCON editions where they won the title, they faced their counterpart in the grand final.
This happened in 1980 with a goalless draw in the group stage, in 1994 during the tournament's semifinals which they won on penalties, and in the quarter-finals of 2012 when they won 2-1.
Here's how Ivory Coast has fared in the finals 🐘
The "Elephants" are aiming for their third AFCON title after winning the editions of 1992 and 2015, both against Ghana via penalties. On the other hand, they lost two finals, in 2006 against Egypt and in 2012 against Zambia, respectively.

They will play their eighth Africa Cup of Nations final, knowing that only Egypt and Ghana have played more (9), and it could mean their fourth continental crown after winning in 1980, 1994, and 2013.
Nigeria has won two of their last three finals (1994 and 2013), losing in 2000 against Cameroon; although before this streak, they lost three consecutive finals in 1984, 1988, and 1990.
