Nigeria will play their final Group A match in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations against Guinea Bissau on Monday, January 22, aiming to secure nothing less than a victory. Having suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in the opening match and a 4-2 loss to Equatorial Guinea in the second, the Djurtus will take their last lap against Nigeria with hopes of causing an upset. Guinea Bissau will have their 1-0 win over the Super Eagles in Abuja during the qualifiers in mind.
"Indeed, we will base ourselves on this match. We have analyzed the Super Eagles' game well, and we hope to succeed in our outing despite not having had a good tournament," said Baciro Condé ahead of the game.
On the other hand, Nigeria aims to avoid a scenario similar to their qualifiers against Guinea Bissau. However, a loss to Guinea Bissau and a victory for Ivory Coast against Equatorial Guinea would eliminate the Nigerians.
"What matters is the present. We focus on the present and the future. We have confidence in ourselves. We are aiming for the top spot, which is also occupied by Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast, so it's up to us to remain vigilant," explained José Peseiro.
Defender Kenneth Omeruo stated that their mission in Ivory Coast is to win the trophy and nothing else.
"Our objective is clear. Bring the cup home. It's been a while since we added a trophy to our cabinet, which is not acceptable when you're wearing the green shirt. I won't say that our defeat against them was accidental, but it does not reflect the spirit that reigns in our camp today. We are hungry for victory, and it's up to us to put everything in place to achieve our ambitions”.
