Group A of the AFCON 2023 is witnessing one of the tournament's surprise teams. Equatorial Guinea, who had drawn against Nigeria in the opening match, now clinched a 4-2 victory against Guinea-Bissau.

The standout player of the match was Emilio Nsue. The 35-year-old veteran scored a hat trick, joining the ranks of players like Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o and South Africa's Benni McCarthy, finding the net in the 21st, 51st, and 61st minutes.

Equatorial Guinea's fourth goal came in the 46th minute, courtesy of Josetr Miranda. Meanwhile, Guinea-Bissau scored their first goal as an own goal by Esteban Orozco in the 37th minute, and they managed to reduce the deficit in the 90+3rd minute after VAR confirmed Zé Turbo's goal.

Currently, Equatorial Guinea leads Group A with four points, pending the outcome of the match between Ivory Coast and Nigeria, while Guinea-Bissau is at the bottom with no points, facing the risk of elimination from AFCON 2023.
