Toughest Critique for 'Canelo' Álvarez: 'A DISRESPECT TO BOXING
Every time Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez has a fight, his detractors emerge. This time, it was the turn of the renowned trainer Nacho Beristáin, who said that the career of the fighter from Jalisco raises many "doubts" for him.
"I don't like to talk about 'Canelo's' career, I have many doubts about his career because there are like five fights that leave me very upset with what is happening in today's boxing," were his words in an interview for Faitelson Sin Censura, prior to the fight between the Mexican and Munguía.
And although Beristáin highlighted "Canelo's" athletic ability, he acknowledged that he receives "preferential treatment" due to his economic influence in today's boxing, something that he considers "a disrespect to boxing."
In this line of thought, he has commented that even the rules have become more flexible to benefit the fighter from Jalisco because of the large amount of money he generates for the organizations. To top it off... he made it clear that "Canelo" is not among the top 10 boxers in the history of Mexico, something that only confirms his animosity towards the man who is considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound fighter of the moment.
"Canelo" will be facing Jaime Munguía on May 4th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, a fight scheduled at 168 pounds and where the four world titles of the fighter from Jalisco will be at stake.
