Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki saved three match points en route to a 6-4 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (9-7) second-round win over Roberta Vinci at the Connecticut Open on Wednesday.

Wozniacki looked set for an early exit at the WTA Tour event in New Haven when Italian qualifier Vinci served for the match at 5-3 in the third-set tie-break.

But four-time champion Wozniacki rallied, saving three match points and winning the final three points as the Dane booked a quarter-final showdown with Caroline Garcia.

"It was a different match in general," said third-seeded Wozniacki. "She made it tricky out there with her slice and with her forehand and mixing up the serve and stuff.

"Being at match point and losing, that really [stinks]. So I’m really happy to be on this side.

"The good thing is, I'm through and I get another chance."

Defending champion and Czech second seed Petra Kvitova also won through to the quarters courtesy of a 4-6 6-1 6-2 victory against Madison Keys.

Kvitova dropped the opening set but stormed back to setup a last-eight meeting with Agnieszka Radwanska.

Pole Radwanska had no such trouble as she dispatched of Alize Cornet 6-4 6-2.

The seventh seed won eight of nine games to go up a set and lead 4-0 as she went on to book her spot in the next round.

Fifth seed Pliskova also made it past the second round via a routine 6-4 6-1 victory over Olga Savchuk.

Lesia Tsurenko stands in the way of Pliskova and a semi-final berth.
