Argentine Juan Martin del Potro's withdrawal from Wimbledon due to his troublesome wrist injury has been confirmed.

The 26-year-old needed surgery on his left wrist for the third time, with the operation always likely to end his chances of featuring at the All England Club.

A statement from tournament referee Andrew Jarrett read: "Juan Martin Del Potro has withdrawn from the Championships 2015 due to recent wrist surgery.

"This means that Marinko Matosevic (AUS) moves into the main draw gentlemen's singles."

The 2009 US Open champion has played just four matches this year, winning twice in Sydney before a loss in Miami in March marked his last outing.
