Berdych announces split from Vallverdu
Tomas Berdych will go into the French Open at Roland Garros without a coach after announcing his split from Daniel Vallverdu.
World number eight Tomas Berdych has announced his split from coach Daniel Vallverdu ahead of next week's French Open.
Berdych has failed to reach a final in 2016 and has struggled on clay, including a first-round exit at the Monte Carlo Masters to Damir Dzumhur.
The 30-year-old has worked with Vallverdu since the coach parted company with Andy Murray in 2014, but their partnership has failed to see the Czech challenge the top four on a regular basis.
As a result Berdych – who was beaten 6-0 6-0 by David Goffin in Rome last week – has made the change to his coaching team, although he is yet to decide on the identity of Vallverdu's replacement.
"My results lately have not been what I expected. As I am not a tennis player at the beginning of his career I have to act quickly when I feel that I need a change," Berdych announced on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Vallverdu wished Berdych the best as the Czech begins his preparations for the second grand slam of the year at Roland Garros.
"I've enjoyed working with Tomas and the challenge to help him achieve his professional goals," he tweeted.
"However we have decided not to continue with our working relationship. I wish Tomas all the best moving forward."
