Arsenal & Chelsea set to battle it out with a place in the Carabao Cup Final on the line
Mitch Freeley
Arsenal will be targeting their third League Cup final appearance when they welcome Chelsea to the Emirates on Wednesday evening. Arsene Wenger has never won the League cup during his 22-year tenure with the Gunners and will be looking to get one over London rivals Chelsea who beat his side in the 2007 League Cup final.
One player who will have to wait for his Arsenal debut is Henrikh Mkhitaryan who is cup-tied after representing former side Manchester United earlier in the competition. In team news, Nacho Monreal & midfielder Aaron Ramsey could play a part after shaking off injuries during the week.
The Gunners have lost only once in their last seven encounters with Chelsea, and Wenger is likely to field a stronger side than usual with the chance to reach the Wembley final on the line. After ending his goal drought over the weekend against Crystal Palace, Alexandre Lacazette could be the key man for the Gunners in with the match on a knife-edge.
As for Chelsea, they will be without former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas who is out with a hamstring injury along with striker Alvaro Morata who is unlikely to take part with a back complaint. Danish defender Andreas Christensen is available for selection after recovering from a head injury.
Antonio Conte’s side is back to winning ways following four consecutive draws with their 4-0 victory over Brighton. However the blues undefeated streak stretches all the way back since the 9th of December, and the Italian coach will be confident that his side will be able to score at the Emirates.
Eden Hazard has been inspired for Chelsea in recent weeks and has been showing the kind of performances that saw him pick up the PFA Player of the year during the 2014-2015 season. Last time at the Emirates, Hazard won and converted a penalty for his side in a frantic 2-2 draw. Whilst the Belgian is in good goalscoring form after grabbing a brace in the win over Brighton.
Arsenal takes on Chelsea for the chance to face off against Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup. As ever you can watch the match exclusively on beIN SPORTS Connect.
