Wozniacki fights through, Bouchard pulls out in Eastbourne
Svetlana Kuznetsova took Caroline Wozniacki the distance at the Aegon International, but the Dane fought her way into the last eight.
Caroline Wozniacki recovered from a first-set collapse to beat Svetlana Kuznetsova in three sets to reach the Aegon International quarter-finals, as Eugenie Bouchard retired in her third-round match against Belinda Bencic.
Second seed Wozniacki - champion at Eastbourne in 2009 - emerged victorious 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-1.
It was not all plain sailing for the Dane, who surrendered a 5-1 first-set lead before falling to a 6-0 deficit in a tie-break that Kuznetsova wrapped up when her opponent put a backhand into the net.
Wozniacki quickly recovered to level the match at 1-1, before taking a 3-1 lead in the decider when Kuznetsova put a forehand wide.
Kuznetsova managed to stave off two break points in game six, but Wozniacki made no mistake with the third to take a double-break lead and she served out for the match at the first time of asking.
Wozniacki will meet Andrea Petkovic in the last eight after the German beat Coco Vandeweghe 6-3 6-4.
Seventh seed Bouchard, runner-up at Wimbledon in 2014, retired with an abdominal injury when trailing Bencic 6-4 3-0, but the Canadian vowed to be fit for SW19.
"I'm going to play no matter what, even if I'm on one leg," she said. "I will take a few days off from serving and give it a little break and see how it goes."
Bencic next comes up against Johanna Konta. The Australia-born British player - who picked up her first WTA Tour win over a top-10 player against Ekaterina Makarova on Tuesday - usurped 14th seed Garbine Muguruza 6-4 4-6 6-3.
The home fans were unable to celebrate double success, though, as Heather Watson crumbled to a 6-2 6-3 loss versus Sloane Stephens.
In other matches, 2008 champion Agnieszka Radwanska defeated eighth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-2 6-1, Daria Gavrilova overcame Sara Errani 6-1 5-7 6-2 and Tsvetana Pironkova came from behind to see off Dominika Cibulkova 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-1.
