2018 FIFA World Cup- Egypt Profile

Egypt are heading to their first World Cup in 28 years, after sealing their place in Russia with a last-gasp penalty from captain Mohammed Salah. This is only the Pharaohs third visit to the World Cup and will be hoping of reaching the knockout stages for the first time in their history.

  • Egypt's last two World Cup appearances came in Italy in the 1990 & 1934 editions of the tournament.

  • Egypt became the second team from Africa to qualify for Russia 2018, winning group E with a game to spare.

  • Winger Abdulrahman Fawzi's two goals in the 1934 tournament make him Egypt's leading scorer in a World Cup.

Héctor Cúper has managed the Pharaohs since March 2015, guiding them to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final, and qualification to the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. The veteran tactician has managed some of Europe's biggest clubs in Valencia & Inter Milan. His experience will be crucial if Egypt is to progress.

Star Man

Mohamed Salah

Egypt will be relying on captain Mohamed Salah to fire them to glory. The attacker has enjoyed a fine debut season with Liverpool. Salah scored in every qualification game on route to the World Cup. Pharaohs fans will be hoping for more of the same from the number 10 in Russia, although an injury in the Champions League final against Real Madrid could hamper the wingers form for the first game at least.
