Cameroon had to work harder than expected to secure first place in Group D at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, settling for a 1-1 draw against Cape Verde.

The Indomitable Lionesses took the lead in the 28th minute, when Grâce Mendoua fired home from the center of the penalty area to open the scoring.

Cape Verde responded after halftime, with Ivania Moreira scoring a superb goal into the top corner in the 51st minute to level the match at 1-1.

The draw also marked a historic milestone for Cape Verde, which earned the first point in its Women's Africa Cup of Nations history.

Nigeria awaits in the quarterfinals

Despite the draw, Cameroon finished top of Group D and has now learned its opponent for the quarterfinals.

The Lionesses will face Nigeria, which finished second in Group C, in a match scheduled for August 9.
