James named in England's Euro 2025 squad
England's European Championship title defence begins on July 5, and Sarina Wiegman has named her squad for the tournament.
Sarina Wiegman has named Lauren James in England's 23-player squad for Euro 2025, as they bid to retain their title.
James has not featured for England or Chelsea since April, when she suffered a hamstring injury against Belgium, and was a major doubt for next month's tournament in Switzerland.
However, Wiegman has chosen to include her as one of seven forwards in the squad. James has netted seven goals in 23 appearances for England.
Wiegman said of James: "It's not a risk. We have some time, we still have a month.
"She's training really well at her club. She's at the point we hope she would be at this stage.
"She keeps progressing, and hopefully, when we go into camp, she can go into training with us and keep progressing into the first game on July 5."
Michelle Agyemang is a surprise inclusion, though she made an instant impact in her sole appearance so far, scoring just 41 seconds into her debut in the 3-2 defeat against Belgium.
Georgia Stanway, who only recently made her return from a long-term knee injury, is one of just five midfielders in the squad, while Lauren Hemp and Alex Greenwood, who missed large parts of 2024-25 through injury, are also included.
Despite making her senior debut on Tuesday against Spain, there was no place in the squad for Aston Villa's Missy Bo Kearns, while Nikita Parris, who has 74 England caps, also misses out.
Kearns is one of those on standby, though, along with Sophie Baggaley, Laura Blindkilde Brown and Lucy Parker.
England have had to deal with some surprises in the last couple of weeks, with Mary Earps and Fran Kirby both announcing their international retirements, while Millie Bright withdrew herself from contention due to her physical and mental wellbeing.
