Maddison to miss remainder of season with knee injury
Tottenham will have to play the rest of the season, including a potential Europa League final, without the injured James Maddison.
James Maddison will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.
The England midfielder limped off during the first leg of Spurs' Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt, in which he scored the second goal of a 3-1 victory.
Maddison has been one of Tottenham's standout performers during a difficult season for the club, registering the joint-most goal involvements in all competitions (22, level with Son Heung-min and Dominic Solanke).
However, he will play no further part this term in what is another blow for Postecoglou, who is also without Lucas Bergvall for the remainder of the campaign due to an ankle injury.
"Madders tweaked his knee in the first leg. He's out, he'll miss the rest of the season," the Spurs boss told reporters ahead of Thursday's second leg against Bodo/Glimt.
"It's disappointing for him more than anything else, because he has been a big catalyst for us. He misses out, but that's been a constant of our season dealing with these things. We'll [just need to] overcome that."
Tottenham are 16th in the Premier League, but will qualify for next season's Champions League should they go on and lift the Europa League trophy.
Should they progress to the final, Postecoglou's side will face either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao in the showpiece on May 21, with the Red Devils leading 3-0 from the first leg of that tie.
