A 'Polar' Team Will Play in the Europa League Semifinals
Imagine spending winters in complete darkness. In December and January, you barely see the sunlight and experience midnight suns. That is the reality of Bodø Glimt, the Norwegian team that is playing in the Europa League Semifinals today against Tottenham.
The team is based in Bodø, a small region in Norway, located within the Arctic Circle. The city has just 50,000 inhabitants. Bodø/Glimt is one of only two top-flight European clubs from UEFA's 55 member nations that are based inside the Arctic Circle.
The team, which wears yellow and black, was founded 109 years ago and plays at the Aspmyra Stadion, a venue with a capacity of 8,000 fans. The word “Glimt” means “Lightning”, and the club proudly claims to be the first 'polar' team to reach the semifinals of a European tournament, as well as the first Norwegian team to make it to this stage.
Bodø/Glimt, one of the two northernmost top-tier clubs in the world, has a squad valued at 45 million dollars and features only five foreign players—the rest are Norwegian—and for now, they are living a dream. And they don't want to wake up.
DON’T FORGET THE YELLOW TOOTHBRUSH
If there’s something that stands out about Bodø Glimt, Tottenham’s opponent today in the Europa League, it's that their fans wave around giant yellow toothbrushes as a symbol of support. The “Yellow Horde” has embraced them as their emblem for over 50 years, and it all began in a curious way.
In 1975, a fan tried to organize a chant and asked for a baton to conduct the song. Another fan handed him a regular yellow toothbrush. Coincidentally, a representative from the toothbrush brand Jordan Oral Care was in the stands, and at the next home matches, brought giant yellow toothbrushes for fans to cheer with.

From that moment on, the dental hygiene tool became an iconic symbol of Bodø Glimt, to the point that in 2009, Jordan Oral Care created a regular-sized line of yellow toothbrushes to be sold in the club's store.
