Harry Kane Matches Cristiano Ronaldo Record in the Champions League

There are nights when a goal means much more than simply changing the score.

Harry Kane found the net again for Bayern Munich in its 5-0 rout of Bodø/Glimt, and with his second-half header, he reached a milestone previously reserved for some of the greatest strikers to ever play in the Champions League.

The England captain has now scored in eight consecutive matches in Europe’s premier club competition.

The other players to produce a scoring streak of at least eight games? Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

That’s it.

Kane Joins Cristiano Ronaldo on an Exclusive List

The historic goal arrived in the 61st minute at the Allianz Arena.

Michael Olise delivered the ball from a set piece and Kane appeared inside the penalty area to connect with a header and score Bayern’s second goal of the night.

At first glance, it looked like just another goal for the English striker.

Statistically, it meant much more.

According to Opta, Kane became only the fourth player in Champions League history to score in eight consecutive matches or more. Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski both achieved the feat on two separate occasions, while Ruud van Nistelrooy also belongs to that exclusive group.

Kane had already established a record for English soccer. UEFA recognized him as the first English player to score in seven consecutive appearances in the competition. Now he has pushed that record even further.

Eight matches.

A Streak That Started Last Season

The record also helps illustrate the extraordinary 2025-26 Champions League campaign produced by the striker.

Kane finished that edition with 14 goals, the most ever scored by an English player in a single season of the competition. Only Kylian Mbappé, with 15, finished ahead of him in the scoring charts.

Bayern’s elimination did nothing to stop his personal streak.

A new edition began, and Kane did exactly the same thing again.

Score.

His goal against Bodø/Glimt was the 55th of his Champions League career, reached in 71 appearances, according to the updated records following the match.

The scale of his numbers becomes even more impressive when compared with the tournament’s history. Before this matchday, Opta already had the Englishman inside the Top 10 of the competition’s all-time leading scorers.

Bayern Needed Patience Before the Rout

The final score might suggest it was a comfortable night from the opening whistle, but Bodø/Glimt managed to resist throughout the entire first half.

The Norwegian wall finally collapsed after the break.

Jamal Musiala opened the scoring in the 47th minute before Kane’s header doubled the advantage. With the match under control, Alphonso Davies added the third in the 77th minute before Michael Olise completed the rout with a late brace.

The 5-0 victory allowed Bayern to begin its 2026-27 Champions League campaign in dominant fashion and extend its streak of winning its opening match of the competition to 23 consecutive seasons.

But the night also ended up belonging to its No. 9.

Kane Is Now Chasing an Even Longer Streak

Reaching eight consecutive matches with a goal places Kane on a historic list, but he still has an opportunity to push the streak even further.

His next European match will be against Viking FK on October 13, before hosting Arsenal at the Allianz Arena and later traveling to face Atlético de Madrid.

Every match will now represent another opportunity to extend a streak that began last season and has already put the English striker alongside some of the greatest legends in the competition’s history.

Cristiano Ronaldo did it.

Lewandowski did it.

Van Nistelrooy did it.

Now Harry Kane belongs to that group as well.
