Erling Haaland Punishes His Former Club and Breaks Another Champions League Record
He doesn’t even spare his exes. Erling Haaland scored once again against Borussia Dortmund and set a historic Champions League record that neither Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo ever achieved.
The Record That Sets Him Apart
Every match for Erling Haaland seems to bring another piece of history. The Norwegian striker scored again on Wednesday in Manchester City’s 4–1 win over his former club Borussia Dortmund, setting a record never seen before: the first player to score in five consecutive Champions League games for three different teams.
He achieved the feat after doing it first with Red Bull Salzburg in the 2019–20 season, repeating it with Borussia Dortmund in 2020–21, and now extending it with Manchester City, where he already has four goals in the first four matches of this campaign.
A Predator With No Limits
In total, Haaland has scored five goals in this season’s Champions League — one against Napoli, a brace versus Monaco, another against Villarreal, and his latest strike against Dortmund. That brings his tally to 54 goals in 52 matches in the competition, making him the ninth-highest scorer in Champions League history at just 25 years old.
Ahead of him remain only legends like Cristiano Ronaldo (140), Lionel Messi (129), and Robert Lewandowski (105) — but at this pace, the Norwegian looks destined to climb that list faster than anyone before him.
The Executioner of His Ex
What makes this milestone even more poetic is that Haaland achieved it against the club that launched him to stardom. The forward didn’t hesitate to celebrate his goal passionately, proving that on the pitch, sentiment has no place.
With his ruthless instinct and unrelenting ambition, Erling Haaland continues to build a career worthy of football’s history books — and at this rate, not even his former teams will escape his unstoppable hunger for goals.
