Club World Cup success would be 'cherry on the cake' for PSG, says Luis Enrique
Paris Saint-Germain have won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Champions League this season, but are now targeting the Club World Cup.
Luis Enrique says Paris Saint-Germain winning the Club World Cup would be the "cherry on the cake" after their treble success.
PSG completed their treble in dominant fashion on Saturday, with a record-breaking 5-0 win over Inter in the Champions League final in Munich.
It was their first Champions League title, with Luis Enrique also becoming only the second manager to win a treble with two different clubs (having also won with Barcelona in 2015), after Pep Guardiola (with Barcelona in 2009 and Manchester City in 2023).
However, PSG's season is not yet over, with the Club World Cup fast approaching – they begin their campaign against Atletico Madrid in California on June 15.
And Luis Enrique has challenged his team to add another trophy to their cabinet to cap off their incredible season.
"The Club World Cup is an incredible competition, not the same as Champions League yet, but it will become something that all the best teams in the world want to win," Luis Enrique said.
"And we want to finish the season in style, and that would be the cherry on the cake, and our fifth trophy this season, if we pull it off."
Luis Enrique also thanked PSG's supporters for their emotional tribute to his daughter Xana, who died at nine years old from cancer in 2019.
The Spaniard wore a black shirt honouring Xana during the game, and following the match, the PSG fans unfurled a touching banner, depicting his daughter planting a club flag in the centre circle.
It was inspired by a photograph of Luis Enrique and Xana, then five, planting a Barcelona flag in the turf in 2015 after they had beaten Juventus in the Champions League final.
"It was very emotional," Luis Enrique told reporters. "It was beautiful to think that the supporters thought about me and my family.
"I don't need to win a game or the Champions League to think about my daughter.
"I think about her every day. She is with our family, and I feel her presence even when we are losing.
"Xana is always with us. We always think of her, we love her. We carry her forever in our hearts.
"I was delighted with the banner, but I don't need a trophy to think about my daughter."
