Lamine Yamal Makes Champions League History with Record-Breaking Goal in Semifinal vs Inter
Lamine Yamal continues to rewrite the history books. On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the 17-year-old FC Barcelona forward became the youngest player ever to score in a UEFA Champions League semifinal, netting a brilliant goal in the thrilling 3-3 draw against Inter Milan at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
A Historic Record in the Champions League
At just 17 years and 291 days, Yamal broke a record that had stood for over six decades, surpassing António Simões, who scored for Benfica against Tottenham in 1962 at the age of 18 years and 97 days.
Yamal’s goal came in the 24th minute following a dazzling solo run, further cementing his status as one of the brightest young stars in world football. He also became the second-youngest player to appear in a Champions League semifinal for Barcelona, behind only Bojan Krkic.
100 Matches — A European First
The milestone night didn’t end with just a goal. Yamal also celebrated his 100th official club appearance, making him the youngest player in European football history to reach that total, according to BeSoccer Pro (via EFE).
He beats out notable names such as:
- Romelu Lukaku – 100 matches at 18 years, 131 days
- Youri Tielemans – at 18 years, 171 days
- Gianluigi Donnarumma – at 18 years, 308 days
In Spain, only Iker Muniain (19 years, 20 days) and Gavi (19 years, 29 days) follow him on the list.
