More bad news for Real Madrid: another blow to the starting defense
Ferland Mendy, the French left-back for Real Madrid, has suffered yet another injury — this time a tear in the proximal tendon of the rectus femoris in his right quadriceps. The setback happened just eight minutes after his return in the Copa del Rey final, forcing him off the pitch far earlier than expected.
Official club statement
"Following tests carried out on our player Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a tear in the proximal tendon of the rectus femoris in his right quadriceps. His recovery will be monitored," the club announced in an official statement.
Another name added to Madrid’s defensive injury list
Mendy's absence adds to an already worrying injury crisis for Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian coach is without key defenders like Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão, both sidelined with serious knee issues. Eduardo Camavinga and Antonio Rüdiger have also been dealing with physical problems in recent games.
With this latest injury, Real Madrid’s defense heads into the final stretch of the season in a severely depleted state — a major concern as the team continues to compete in LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League.
