Galatasaray Legend Fernando Muslera Bids Emotional Farewell After 14 Seasons
An era has come to an end in Turkish football. After 14 unforgettable seasons, nearly 550 appearances, and countless trophies, Fernando Muslera has officially said goodbye to Galatasaray, the most popular club in Turkey and the reigning Süper Lig champions.
A symbolic farewell in Istanbul
The news was confirmed on Thursday via an official statement on Galatasaray’s website, followed by a heartfelt farewell press conference in Istanbul. The club pulled out all the stops to honor a man who has become more than just a goalkeeper for the fans and the institution.
“Nando is no longer a foreigner to us, he’s one of us,” said club president Dursun Aydın Özbek. “He is a valuable brother who has worked hard for these colors for 14 years. He has been a pillar during our hardest times and a key figure in all our recent successes.”
A record-breaking legacy
Muslera leaves Galatasaray as the foreign player with the most appearances in the club’s history and with a remarkable 19 titles to his name:
- 8 Süper Lig titles
- 6 Turkish Super Cups
- 5 Turkish Cups
More than the numbers, Muslera has been a symbol of leadership, consistency, and loyalty. As club captain, he embodied the spirit of Galatasaray, both on and off the pitch.

Not retiring—just relocating
Despite his emotional goodbye, Fernando Muslera made it clear he is not hanging up his gloves just yet. During the press conference, the Uruguayan international (born in Buenos Aires) announced his intention to continue playing closer to home and his family, though his next club remains undisclosed.
With 133 caps for Uruguay, World Cup appearances, and a long European career, Muslera brings experience, character, and pedigree. Wherever he goes, he’ll be an asset—on the field and in the locker room.
A true Galatasaray legend, Fernando Muslera leaves behind a golden legacy that will live on in Turkish football history.
