FC Barcelona continue to search for a new center-forward to strengthen their squad and replace Robert Lewandowski. The Catalan club's priority remains Julián Álvarez, but the lack of progress in negotiations with Atlético Madrid has forced the sporting department to explore alternative targets.
Inter Shut the Door on Barcelona Move for Lautaro Martínez
Barcelona have sounded out Lautaro Martínez's camp, but Inter Milan have made their position clear: the Argentine striker is considered untouchable and his departure is not currently being considered.
One of those options is Lautaro Martínez. Barcelona sporting director Deco has already held conversations with the Argentine striker's representatives to assess his availability for a potential move to the Camp Nou.
From the player's side, a transfer would reportedly not be an issue. Lautaro would be willing to consider a move to Barcelona if the opportunity arises.
The biggest obstacle, however, is in Italy.
Inter Milan have no intention of selling their main star and have declared the Argentine forward non-transferable. The Italian club's position is firm and, at least for now, they have no plans to negotiate his departure.
That stance forces Barcelona to keep other options open while waiting for the Julián Álvarez situation to develop. The Atlético Madrid striker remains the club's primary target, but the movement needed to unlock negotiations has yet to happen.
Time is becoming an increasingly important factor for Barcelona, with the transfer window closing soon. As a result, Deco is also monitoring two Villarreal forwards: Georges Mikautadze and Ayoze Pérez.
Both players are admired by Hansi Flick, although they offer different profiles and come with different price tags. Mikautadze, in particular, has a release clause worth €78 million, a significant figure for the Catalan club.
Villarreal are already aware of Barcelona's interest and are monitoring the situation closely. If the Catalan side eventually decides to sign one of their forwards, Villarreal would then have to enter the market to find a replacement.
For now, Lautaro remains an attractive alternative because of his experience, goalscoring ability and proven record at the highest level. The Argentine has become one of Inter's most important players and remains a central figure in the Italian club's project.
For the moment, however, Inter's message is clear: they do not want to sell.
