Inter boss Cristian Chivu praised the resilience and togetherness of his players after they lifted the Scudetto following their final home match of the season.

Chivu's men were denied a win as they drew 1-1 with Verona, with Kieran Bowie's injury-time effort cancelling out an own goal scored by Andrias Edmundsson.

However, the celebrations were already in full swing at San Siro as Inter had completed their title win with a 2-0 win over Parma a fortnight ago, and they completed a domestic double earlier this week following another 2-0 victory over Lazio in the Coppa Italia final. 

Chivu is the first Inter coach to win a domestic double since Jose Mourinho in 2010, with the Portuguese making it a treble by also lifting the Champions League trophy that year.

Reflecting on his first campaign at the helm, Chivu credited his players for always sticking together, even when things were not quite as smooth in the early months.

"There are always ups and downs over eight months," Chivu said to DAZN.

"You have to know how to overcome the difficult times we had at the beginning of the season.

"The euphoria has passed, but today we have the chance to show off the trophies we won, thanks to these guys."

Chivu has spent nearly 20 years at the club as a player and a youth coach, along with his one campaign in charge of the first team.

Having dedicated so many years to the Nerazzurri in various roles, he admitted that it was a ''beautiful feeling'' to lead the side to more success, though he insisted he took more satisfaction from seeing their players and supporters celebrate the achievement.

He said: “I’ve been here for 19 years, it’s a beautiful feeling for me, but I’m even happier for my boys and for these fans.”
