Marcus Rashford Reveals Which Manchester United Manager He Enjoyed Playing Under the Most
English forward Marcus Rashford has spoken fondly of his time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, admitting that the Norwegian was the manager he most enjoyed playing for during his spell at Manchester United.
Rashford Reflects on His Best Period at Old Trafford
In an interview with Norwegian outlet TV2, Marcus Rashford revealed that his best spell at Manchester United came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who took charge of the team in December 2018. The English forward, now starring for Barcelona, highlighted the close relationship and positive environment he experienced under the former coach.
“Ole is a fantastic person. I loved playing under him. I can speak for many of my teammates when I say we really enjoyed playing for him. We played good football, and it was a very successful period for me personally,” said Rashford.
The academy graduate enjoyed some of his finest years under Solskjaer, becoming a key player for the Red Devils and reaching impressive scoring figures — including 30 goals in the 2022-23 season. During that time, Manchester United returned to contention for the Premier League title, with Rashford establishing himself as one of the team’s brightest stars.
However, their relationship became strained toward the end of Solskjaer’s tenure, when the manager publicly urged the player to “prioritize his football” amid his growing involvement in social and charitable causes. Despite that, Rashford defended his former boss after his dismissal in November 2021, taking partial responsibility for the team’s struggles.
A Rebirth in Barcelona
After a turbulent few years at Manchester United, Rashford is thriving again with Barcelona, where he has quickly become one of the most important figures in Hansi Flick’s attacking setup. So far this season, the Englishman has recorded four goals and one assist in the Champions League, along with one goal and five assists in LaLiga, showing a renewed sense of consistency and confidence.

The winger has earned praise from fans and teammates alike for his speed, commitment, and leadership on the pitch. His current average of one goal contribution every 88 minutes demonstrates just how influential he has been for the Catalan side.
“Playing for Barcelona has given me back my confidence. I’m enjoying football again,” Rashford has reportedly told those close to him.
Solskjaer’s Lasting Impact on Rashford
Although his time in charge at Old Trafford ended amid criticism, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left a lasting mark on several Manchester United players — especially on Rashford, who developed into a world-class forward under his guidance.
Now thriving in Spain, the Englishman hasn’t forgotten the man who helped shape his career: “It was a very special period, both for me and for the club,” he said.
With his resurgence at Barcelona and ambitions for more silverware, Marcus Rashford continues to credit Solskjaer as the coach who “always believed in him.”
