Manchester United Can Breathe: Benjamin Šeško Avoids Surgery and Targets a December Return
Manchester United can finally exhale. The alarms triggered by Rúben Amorim after Benjamin Šeško’s injury were not as serious as feared. The Slovenian striker, who has had an inconsistent start at Old Trafford, suffered a knee issue that forced him off against Tottenham, but medical tests have ruled out surgery.
The injury came at a delicate moment for Šeško, who is still trying to settle into the Premier League after a turbulent summer. The club had been following him since 2018 and, despite strong interest from Newcastle United, the forward chose to accept a lower salary just to wear United red. His work ethic has impressed the staff, spending extra hours at Carrington to speed up his adaptation.Even so, his impact in front of goal remains limited: only two goals in 12 appearances before getting injured.
Amorim had already warned that the 22-year-old would need time to adapt. “He has no experience in this type of football. He’ll struggle, it’s normal,” he said. Fate proved him right just a few days later.
A Recoverable Issue: Three to Five Weeks Out
The medical report is far more positive than United initially feared. According to The Athletic, Šeško will be sidelined for three to five weeks, a reasonable recovery window that allows the club to plan for his return before the end of 2025.
If everything progresses smoothly, United expect their 85-million-euro signing to be available by mid-December, potentially for the Bournemouth match on the 15th.
The good news is that this is the first knee injury of the Slovenian’s career, a player with a remarkably clean medical record. At RB Leipzig, for example, he missed just one match across two full seasons. His worst spell of inactivity came in 2021–22 due to growth-related muscle issues.
Still, the striker could miss up to four Manchester United matches:
• Everton (November 24)
• Crystal Palace (November 30)
• West Ham (December 4)
• Wolves (December 8)
A Key Return for a Tightening Schedule
United are entering a demanding stretch of the season, and getting Šeško back before their African internationals leave for the Africa Cup of Nations will be crucial to avoid weakening their attack. Amorim is confident that, after the scare, the forward can resume his build-up and finally experience his long-awaited “lift-off moment.”
For now, Old Trafford can breathe. The hit was real, but the fall won’t be as hard. And Šeško, determined to succeed in Manchester, will have another chance to prove himself before the year ends.
