Manchester City’s Spending Under Guardiola Surpasses €2 Billion
Manchester City’s ambition shows no signs of slowing, with another record-setting window pushing Pep Guardiola’s era into unprecedented territory.
A Winter Window That Redefines the Scale
Just as Manchester City continue to generate revenue, they remain relentless in the market. The 2025–26 winter transfer window has already become one of the most aggressive in club history, with close to €100 million spent in a matter of weeks.
The arrival of Marc Guéhi for €23 million, combined with the signing of Antoine Semenyo for a fixed €72 million, has pushed the club’s total spending for the season beyond €300 million—a figure previously reached only in 2017–18, when City invested €317 million.
Smart Recruitment at the Top Level
Led by sporting director Hugo Viana, City’s hierarchy has shown a sharp eye in the market. Players such as Rayan Cherki, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Guéhi were secured for relatively controlled fees of €36 million, €30 million and €23 million, respectively.
The numbers are striking: between the January 2025 and January 2026 windows, City signed 15 players—enough to build a full starting XI—at a combined cost of €550 million.
A Lineup Worth a Fortune
Those additions alone allow City to field a lineup packed with quality and market value:
Donnarumma; Khusanov, Vitor Reis, Guéhi, Aït-Nouri; Nico González, Nypan, Reijnders; Cherki, Marmoush and Semenyo.
It is a snapshot of the financial power behind the project and the squad depth Guardiola now commands.
The Guardiola Era Passes €2 Billion
The milestone moment came back in 2021, when City crossed the €1 billion threshold in total spending since Pep Guardiola arrived at the Etihad, highlighted by the signing of Jack Grealish for nearly €120 million, the most expensive transfer in club history.
Now, after more than 70 signings over the past decade, City’s total investment under the coach from Santpedor has climbed beyond €2 billion, an unprecedented figure in the club’s history.
Investment Backed by Silverware
Crucially, the spending has been matched by success. Over 10 seasons in charge—and with the 2025–26 campaign still unfolding—Guardiola has delivered 18 trophies, cementing one of the most dominant eras modern European football has seen.
The numbers keep rising. So does the legacy. And at Manchester City, the ambition remains limitless.
