Manchester City increasingly concerned about Pep Guardiola’s future
Inside the Etihad, concern is growing over Pep Guardiola’s long-term future, with the issue weighing heavier than the club’s unresolved legal battle.
Uncertainty goes beyond the legal case
Around Manchester City, concern is growing over the possibility that Pep Guardiola could decide to bring his time at the club to an end — a worry that now outweighs the unresolved outcome of the 115 Premier League charges hanging over the champions.
City have been engaged in a legal dispute with the league for nearly three years, firmly denying all allegations. Although the hearing concluded in December 2024, a verdict has yet to be delivered, with potential punishments ranging from substantial fines to points deductions.
Guardiola’s future dominates the internal mood
Beyond the legal process, sources close to the club indicate that uncertainty surrounding Guardiola is creating greater tension behind the scenes. According to The Telegraph, the City dressing room is aware that contingency plans are already being explored should the manager opt to leave at the end of the season.
Guardiola’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, but the Catalan coach has repeatedly stated that he intends to clarify his future this year. If he stays, he would reach a decade in charge during the 2026/27 season, having already won every major honor available, including six Premier League titles.

Results and speculation fuel the noise
The calendar year has not started smoothly for City. A winless run in the league, combined with a heavy Champions League defeat to Bodø/Glimt earlier this week, has intensified the scrutiny surrounding the club.
Following the 3–1 loss in Norway, Guardiola admitted that “everything was going wrong,” though reports suggest his approach on the training ground remains unchanged and that his commitment to restoring City’s dominance is undiminished.
A more optimistic message from the touchline
Despite the external noise, Guardiola remains on the bench and struck a more positive tone ahead of the clash against Wolves.
“We won 2–0 at Newcastle a week ago, and you see how strong they are in the Champions League,” Guardiola said. “I have an extraordinary team, we are together, and I have no doubts about that.”
The City boss also praised Arsenal, calling them “the best team in the world right now,” while expressing confidence that his side can close the gap as the season progresses.
A defining moment for City’s project
With key decisions approaching, Manchester City find themselves at a delicate point in their long-term project. The legal verdict remains pending, but inside the club the central question is whether the architect of their most successful era may be preparing to step away.
For now, Pep Guardiola remains in charge. Until clarity arrives, however, uncertainty continues to hover over the Etihad.
