Klopp 'turned off the telly' after Alexander-Arnold boos against Arsenal
A party atmosphere is expected inside Anfield as Premier League champions Liverpool face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace on the final day.
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he "turned off the telly" when he heard Liverpool fans booing Trent Alexander-Arnold in their game against Arsenal earlier this month.
Alexander-Arnold is leaving the club at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract, bidding farewell to his boyhood club with Real Madrid reportedly waiting in the wings.
The 26-year-old was at the heart of the success enjoyed under Klopp, which included a Champions League title and a first Premier League crown in 30 years the season after.
Indeed, only Roberto Firmino (355), Mohamed Salah (349) and James Milner (323) made more appearances than Alexander-Arnold (310) under Klopp during his time in charge.
However, Alexander-Arnold's announcement to depart has sparked fury among the Liverpool fanbase, with some booing him when he replaced Conor Bradley against Arsenal.
Klopp, back in Liverpool for the first time since his departure to speak at an LFC Foundation fundraising event on Friday, leapt to the defence of the England international.
"I don't want to tell you what you have to think. I can tell you what you think is wrong," Klopp said.
"I don't tell you that you should not be angry, you should not be disappointed, I tell you don't forget. This club doesn't forget.
"I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I switched the telly [television] off. Honestly, I could not have been more disappointed at this moment."
Liverpool end their title-winning campaign against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, who followed up their triumph at Wembley Stadium with a 4-2 win over Wolves in midweek.
In doing so, they surpassed their best-ever points tally in a single Premier League season, with the Eagles' displays this campaign seeing Oliver Glasner attract interest.
Glasner has been linked with a move to Tottenham should they decide to move on from Ange Postecoglou, who guided the club to the Europa League title on Wednesday.
But the Austrian, who is under contract until next summer, expressed his desire to stay at Selhurst Park as they prepare to embark on a European journey next season.
"I have just been talking about the future, and what we are planning, so I am 100% committed to those plans," Glasner said.
"I have no thoughts about something different. I have no influence on all the rumours. I don't really care. I always try to focus on the things I can influence.
"I have a year left, and now we are speaking about next season. Everything that happens after 1 July 2026 we don't talk about this at the moment. It is too far away.
"We are talking about this year, and that is why I am 100% committed. I have a contract and I have no other things on my mind."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Liverpool – Mohamed Salah
With 46 goal involvements (28 goals, 18 assists) in 2024-25, Salah is one short of the all-time Premier League seasonal record of 47, jointly held by Andy Cole (1993-94) and Alan Shearer (1994-95).
However, the Egyptian has just one goal and one assist in his last eight league matches, despite attempting 21 shots and creating 18 chances in that time.
Salah has, however, enjoyed fixtures against the Eagles. He has recorded eight goals and five assists in his 15 appearances against them in the top-flight.
Crystal Palace – Eberechi Eze
Following his FA Cup heroics at Wembley Stadium, Eze continued his fine goal-scoring run in Palace's 4-2 win over Wolves, and he will be looking to end the season on a high.
His 16 Premier League goal involvements for Palace this season (eight goals, eight assists) is his most in a single campaign.
Indeed, he's also scored in four successive matches in the competition. Only Neil Shipperley in December 1997 has a longer scoring run for the Eagles in the competition (five games).
MATCH PREDICTION: LIVERPOOL WIN
Liverpool have lost just one of their last 15 Premier League games against Palace (W12 D2), though it was in this exact fixture last season.
When finishing the season at home, the Premier League champions have won their final match on 13 out of the last 14 occasions. The only exception was Manchester United losing against West Ham in 2006-07.
In addition, the Reds have not lost their final league game of the season since 2014-15 (W7 D2), going down 6-1 at Stoke City. When finishing the campaign at home, Liverpool are unbeaten in 17 (W15 D2) since losing 2-0 against Arsenal in 1988-89.
But since confirming the title in April after their win over Tottenham, Liverpool have failed to win all three of their Premier League games (D1 L2). The Reds last went four matches without winning in the competition in April 2023.
Palace, meanwhile, have enjoyed recent trips to Merseyside. Their last four Premier League wins against Liverpool have come at Anfield, winning this exact fixture 1-0 last season.
Indeed, Glasner is looking to become the fourth visiting manager to win his first two Premier League games at Anfield, after George Burley, Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.
However, Palace have won on just one of the 12 occasions their final top-flight match of the season has been away from home (D3 L8), beating Manchester City 3-2 in 1972-73.
