Glasner rues Palace mistakes as winless run stretches to 11 games
Crystal Palace had a luckless outing as Chelsea ran out 3-1 winner at Selhurst Park, much to the chagrin of Oliver Glasner.
Oliver Glasner rued Crystal Palace's mistakes as their winless run in all competitions stretched to 11 games with a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Selhurst Park.
Jaydee Canvot's careless backpass allowed Estevao to put Chelsea into a first-half lead, before Joao Pedro doubled the advantage five minutes after the restart.
The luckless Canvot was pinged for handball after referee Darren England took a trip to the pitch-side monitor to decide he had accidentally blocked Joao Pedro's shot, with Enzo Fernandez rolling home Chelsea's third from the spot.
Adam Wharton then saw red for a second bookable offence, before Chris Richards' late close-range header sparked a belated spell of Palace pressure that came much too late.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Palace boss Glasner said: "It's disappointing and frustrating.
"It looks like, right now, we are not good enough to win the game but we created our chances, we didn't take them and then we made too many mistakes to give the opponents the chances, and they took them.
"When you've not won in 10 games, the nerves are very thin and then you are 1-0 down and the players are frustrated. They feel we are in the game but 1-0 down again.
"These are tough moments, tough games. I look at the team and 3-0 down, a red card, you can go out five or six nil, but we came back, scored a goal and made a fight of it so that shows the great character of the group and that gives me a lot of confidence this group will turn it around."
Palace have not won now since December 11, when they beat Shelbourne in the Conference League, with their 11-match winless run in all competitions (D4 L7) both the longest current stretch of any Premier League side and the Eagles' longest since a run of 13 between January and March 2023.
Moreover, Palace conceded a penalty, received a red card and shipped three-plus goals all in the same Premier League game for the first time.
Glasner added: "Confidence is what you get from results. It is my job, my responsibility, with my staff, my group, to get this confidence back.
"I saw a lot of positives but when you are losing 3-1 and have not won for 11 games then it's completely right to say 'where are the results?'
"That's what we have to get. It is up to us to find these puzzle pieces. There's no magician. I always believe in this group, these players, that we will turn it around."
