Enzo Maresca acknowledged that Manchester City needs to add experienced reinforcements following the departures of Bernardo Silva, John Stones, and Nathan Aké. The three key players left as free agents, Silva to Real Madrid, Stones to Inter, and Aké to Fenerbahce. The loss of these players affects the quality of football and also the leadership within the locker room.

Youth and bets on the future

So far, City has invested heavily in Elliot Anderson, who arrived from Nottingham Forest for 116 million pounds, and in Jeremy Monga, a 17-year-old youth player from Leicester. Additionally, he is linked with Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille and Pedro Neto from Chelsea. However, Maresca warned that the lack of experience is an area to be strengthened. "Fortunately, this is a squad that doesn't need too many things. At the same time, the club lost important players in terms of experience like Bernardo, John, and Nathan," he explained.

The Italian emphasized that he has daily conversations with Hugo Viana, the sports director, and Ferran Soriano, the club's CEO, to evaluate market movements. "We are in communication every day. The transfer window is open and when it's open, anything can happen," he pointed out. One of those "things" could be the departure of Rodri, world champion in 2026, who is strongly linked to Real Madrid.

City still has two preseason friendlies, against K-League Stars and Atlético de Madrid, before playing the Community Shield against Arsenal on August 16. A week later, they will make their Premier League debut against Bournemouth.
