According to Edul, the player’s own wishes could prove decisive. Fernández reportedly wants to play in the Champions League, an objective that could encourage him to consider a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Rodri could unlock the deal

The future of Rodri could be the key piece of the entire situation. The Spanish midfielder is reportedly negotiating a potential move from Manchester City to Barcelona, and his departure would force the English club to significantly strengthen its midfield.

That is where Fernández comes in. He is one of Enzo Maresca’s main targets, with the Italian coach already knowing the Argentine from their time together at Chelsea.

Maresca’s arrival at City has ushered in a major transition following Pep Guardiola’s departure, and the Italian believes Fernández would fit perfectly into his footballing philosophy.
