Barcelona transfer a 'dream come true', says Gordon
Anthony Gordon completed his reported €80m (£69.3m) switch to Barcelona on Friday, and he is ready to play for "the best team in the world".
Anthony Gordon described his move to Barcelona as "a dream come true" after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal with the LaLiga champions.
Gordon joined Hansi Flick's side from Newcastle United on Friday, with the England international reportedly costing Barcelona €80m (£69.3m) for his services.
The 25-year-old joined the Magpies from Everton in 2023 and went on to become a favourite at St. James' Park, making 152 appearances in all competitions for the club.
During his time at Newcastle, only Alexander Isak (68) had more goal involvements than Gordon's 60, with his 39 goals coming from an expected goals (xG) total of 44.1.
He also scored 10 goals in the Champions League in 2025-26, including one against Barcelona in the league phase, becoming just the second Englishman to reach double figures for goals in a single campaign in the competition, after Harry Kane last season.
"I'm very excited and very proud to be here. It's a dream come true. I'm part of the best team in the world, thank you," Gordon said.
Gordon made an instant impression at his unveiling, answering some questions from reporters in Spanish.
He was reportedly of interest to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, but Gordon assured that as soon as Barcelona came calling, that he was not going to choose anyone else.
"I always wanted Barca," Gordon added. "Barca, like I said then, it's the biggest club on the planet. It's the stuff I dreamed of as a child. It really is a dream come true."
Gordon is Barcelona's first summer signing as they aim to build on their LaLiga title success last year, with a possible reshuffling of their attack on the horizon.
Robert Lewandowski brought the curtain down on his glittering career with the Blaugrana at the end of 2025-26, with Gordon operating as a number nine under Eddie Howe.
Marcus Rashford, who enjoyed a productive loan spell last season, is also linked with a permanent switch, while Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez is a reported target.
Barcelona kept their supporters waiting for confirmation of Gordon's move, with the club initially saying the announcement would be made at midday on Friday.
However, the transfer was officially confirmed just over eight hours later. Asked if he had suffered while waiting, Gordon added: "No, I knew it would happen.
"I've been very calm at the hotel, just waiting with my family, with my agents, but I was very excited, so it was kind of hard to wait. I can’t explain (the delay).
"I don't know, it's stuff I don't understand. All my part was done. I've been ready for two days now, so it was stuff above me, I think, legal things and the very small details."
