Arteta lauds Arsenal's consistency in Premier League title push
Just two wins stand between Arsenal and the Premier League title, and Mikel Arteta is confident their consistency will not falter now.
Mikel Arteta has hailed Arsenal's impressive consistency this season and urged them to get over the line in the title race, with Burnley next up.
Arsenal have led the Premier League for much of the campaign, and their fate is in their own hands with only two games left.
If they win their remaining games – against Burnley and Crystal Palace – they will get their hands on the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2003-04, while a win in the former contest would be enough if Manchester City lose to Bournemouth on Tuesday.
Arsenal have only lost their final home league game in one of the last 28 seasons (W23 D4) and are unbeaten in 14 since a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in 2010-11 (W12 D2).
The Gunners also have a Champions League final to play on May 30, and Arteta believes his squad will continue to shoulder the pressure of their challenge well.
"The last few years have been different. We think we've been in both positions [leading or chasing in the title race]," Arteta said.
"It's what it is. I think the fact that we've been at the top for a long time shows the level of consistency and how well the team has done.
"We're still there in this league. It's where we are now. More than ever, obviously, we want to finish in that position."
Burnley, meanwhile, are playing for pride with their relegation confirmed – they ended a five-match losing streak with a shock 2-2 draw against Villa last time out.
They have not won since mid-February and have won their final away game in just two of their nine Premier League campaigns.
But interim boss Mike Jackson believes this presents the perfect opportunity for Burnley to try and spring a surprise.
"From our point of view, you've got to look at it as an opportunity as well," he said.
"One, to be involved in a game like that. Two, to be really excited about that. And it's a platform to then go and perform.
"We can't influence everything that's going on around it, all the noise.
"What we can do is we can make sure, like we did against Villa last week, that we're still taking the competition really seriously, and that's what we'll do."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Arsenal – Viktor Gyokeres
Nine of Gyokeres' 14 Premier League goals this season have come in home games.
Only three Arsenal players have netted at least 10 at home in their first season with the club – Thierry Henry in 1999-00 (11), Olivier Giroud in 2012-13 (10) and Alexandre Lacazette in 2017-18 (11).
Burnley – Zian Flemming
Flemming is the first Burnley player to score at least 10 goals in a Premier League campaign since Chris Wood in 2020-21 (12).
Eight of those have come in away games, with only Erling Haaland (11) and Igor Thiago (nine) netting more such goals.
MATCH PREDICTION: ARSENAL WIN
Arsenal are heavy favourites to win, having lost just one of their 19 Premier League games against Burnley (W14 D4), going down 1-0 at home in December 2020.
The Gunners have also won all 10 of their Premier League games against sides already relegated that season, the best 100% record in the competition.
Burnley, meanwhile, have never scored more than once in 19 Premier League meetings with Arsenal (nine goals in total), the most one side has faced any other without netting twice in a match in the competition.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 44 top-flight home games against promoted sides (W39 D5) since a 1-0 loss to Newcastle in November 2010. They have won their last 15 by an aggregate score of 43-9.
Burnley have won just one of their last 27 league games (D8 L18), picking up just one more point (11) in this run as they did in their first nine this season (10 – W3 D1 L5).
