Alarm at Arsenal: Gyökeres’ Injury Worries Mikel Arteta
Concern in London. Viktor Gyökeres has set off alarms at Arsenal after limping off against Burnley. Will he be fit in time for the Champions League clash in Prague?
A brilliant start overshadowed by injury worries
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is enjoying one of its best moments of the season. Top of the Premier League and perfect in the Champions League (three wins from three), the Gunners travel to Slavia Prague this Tuesday to open the fourth matchday of the competition.
However, their fine run comes with a major concern for the Spanish coach. Viktor Gyökeres, his star forward, suffered a muscle injury in last weekend’s Premier League match against Burnley, leaving the club on alert ahead of a crucial European fixture.
Arteta confirms the setback and admits concern
Speaking to the press, Arteta didn’t hide his unease. “(Gyökeres) is not available. He couldn’t train today and we’re waiting for more tests to understand the severity of the injury. He felt something, and that’s never a good sign for a player as explosive as him,” explained the Basque manager.
The Swedish striker, who joined from Sporting CP last summer, was substituted at halftime against Burnley after scoring the opening goal in Arsenal’s 2–0 win.
A blow to the Gunners’ attack
With Martín Zubimendi suspended due to yellow-card accumulation and Gyökeres now injured, Arsenal loses two key players ahead of the trip to Prague. So far this season, the Swede has recorded two goals in the Champions League and four in the Premier League, impressive numbers that highlight his quick adaptation to English football.
The coaching staff hopes medical tests will confirm only a minor issue, but everything suggests Arteta will have to reshuffle his attack against Slavia Prague to keep their perfect European record intact.
