Crystal Palace Stuns Liverpool With a Last-Minute Finish
Crystal Palace delivered one of the biggest surprises of the Premier League season by defeating Liverpool 2-1 in a thrilling match that was decided in dramatic fashion. The hero was Eddie Nketiah, who came off the bench and scored the winning goal in stoppage time, handing the Reds their first defeat after five straight victories.
The action started quickly. In the 9th minute, a poor clearance by Ryan Gravenberch from a corner left the ball at the feet of Ismaïla Sarr, who fired from close range to put Palace ahead. Just a minute later, Yeremi Pino almost doubled the lead after a pass from Kamara, but Alisson Becker produced an extraordinary save.
The match was paused briefly due to a medical emergency in the stands, which was handled swiftly by both teams’ medical staff and applauded by the crowd. Once resumed, Liverpool nearly leveled through a powerful strike from Gravenberch, but Henderson tipped it onto the post.
The home side kept the pressure on. Daniel Muñoz forced another save from Alisson, and later Jean-Philippe Mateta got past Ibrahima Konaté, but again the Brazilian keeper denied him. Before halftime, Mateta hit the post and missed another clear chance, keeping the Reds alive despite Palace’s dominance.
Chiesa Equalizes, but Nketiah Seals It
The second half saw Liverpool push harder, with Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz trying to break through, while Alexis Mac Allister looked to connect with Alexander Isak. Despite their control of possession, clear opportunities were scarce and Henderson continued to hold firm.
The equalizer finally arrived in the 87th minute when Federico Chiesa pounced on a loose ball inside the box to make it 1-1. At that point, a draw seemed inevitable.
But in the dying moments, after a long throw-in that the Liverpool defense failed to clear, Eddie Nketiah was in the right place to slot home the winner and seal a 2-1 victory. The goal sent Selhurst Park into ecstasy and handed Crystal Palace a statement win over one of the league’s giants.
The result keeps Oliver Glasner’s side at the top of the standings, while Liverpool faces its first setback of the season after a flawless start.
