Ekstraklasa: The Top Division of Polish Soccer
Eleven points separate the leader from the bottom of the table, a fierce battle is looming after the winter break in the Ekstraklasa.
What is Ekstraklasa?
PKO BP Ekstraklasa is the top league in Polish soccer; it has eighteen teams and thirty-four games are played. The top four teams qualify for international competitions, with the top two going to the UEFA Champions League and the third and fourth teams in the league participating in the UEFA Conference League. Likewise, the bottom three teams are relegated to the second division of Polish soccer.
Halfway through the season, there is no clear winner for the trophy.
This league stands out in the 2025/2026 season as one of the most competitive in terms of the closeness of points between the teams competing, as only eleven points separate the league leaders from those currently fearing relegation. The Ekstraklasa leader, Wisla Plock, is tied at thirty points with Gornik Zabrze. Meanwhile, the immediate contenders for the title can be counted up to 6th place in the league, as they are only one game (three points) apart.

Legia Warsaw, a champion at risk of relegation.
A team that is the most successful in this category, having won 15 titles, now finds itself in a difficult situation, second-to-last in the table.
The Stadion Wojska Polskiego, located in the city of Krakow, could be at risk of losing its status and starting the 2026/2027 season hosting Polish second division club matches. Legia Warszawa has lost three and drawn two of its last five matches, which at this point could cost it relegation.

Wisla Plock, the promoted team that is currently leading the league.
The Ekstraklasa leaders at the halfway point of the season are a team that managed to get promoted last season after playing in and winning the promotion playoffs. Today, with thirty points, they are at the top of the table, tied only with second-place Gornik Zabrze. The latter team is the second-biggest winner in the competition with 14 league titles, looking to equal Legia Warszawa.
Piast Gliwice, one of the strongest of this last stretch.
Piast Gliwice has won four of its last five games. This good form has allowed the Polish team to improve its position in the league, moving up to fourteenth place and, for the time being, avoiding the much-feared relegation.
What will happen in the Ekstraklasa?
The league is currently in matchday 18 of 34, and the tournament will resume on January 30. The first two matches will be between Radomiak Radom against Arka Gdynia, and Zagłębie Lubin against GKS Katowice.
