LA Galaxy v Minnesota United: Ramsay urges visitors to do themselves 'real justice'
Minnesota United can finish as high as second in the Western Conference, but they need to beat LA Galaxy and hope other results favor them.
Minnesota United head coach wants his side to do themselves justice on MLS Decision Day against the LA Galaxy, to secure themselves the highest-seeded position they can.
Heading into the last game of the regular season, Minnesota are fourth in the Western Conference on 58 points, and though they cannot catch leaders Vancouver Whitecaps, they can still move up the table.
They are only two points behind second-placed San Diego FC and can finish anywhere between second and fourth, having been in the mix at the top for the majority of the campaign.
And after returning to winning ways against Sporting Kansas City after a slight wobble, Ramsay wants to see Minnesota put their best foot forward on Saturday.
"We want to finish as high in the table as we can," he said. "We want to do ourselves real justice.
"We've been in and around second and third for most of the year, so I think this is an incredibly important game. We've got to put pressure on ourselves to win.
"We want to go into the playoffs with real momentum, and we've got to go up a level as it's a big weekend."
The Galaxy, meanwhile, are bottom of the West, level on points with Sporting KC after a dismal campaign on the back of their MLS Cup triumph in 2024.
Greg Vanney's side did earn a 2-1 win over FC Dallas last time out and are hoping to end their campaign on a high, and the head coach noted how important Gabriel Pec, who was the match-winner last time out, has been for them.
"He's been one of our most important players this season," Vanney said of Pec. "He shows up every single day, and he was available for every single game.
"He's the consummate team guy; he's the link in the dressing room. He's able to connect with everybody, and tactically, he's very aware. He's been a huge piece for us."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
LA Galaxy – Gabriel Pec
In Saturday's win, Pec notched a goal, an assist and a yellow card, something he also did in a July match against Los Angeles FC.
Pec is the first Galaxy player with two such games in a single regular season since Landon Donovan had two in 2014.
Minnesota United – Tani Oluwaseyi
Tani Oluwaseyi leads the Loons with 10 goals this season, while he is second on the team with eight assists.
Oluwaseyi is the first Canadian to have double-digit goals in an MLS regular season since Tesho Akindele in 2019 and the first to do so while having at least eight assists since Dwayne De Rosario in 2011.
MATCH PREDICTION: DRAW
When the two sides last met in MLS action, they played out a 2-2 draw at Allianz Field in March.
Including playoffs, there have been 72 goals scored in the 18 MLS games between Minnesota and LA Galaxy (4.0 per game). It is one of six MLS fixtures that averages a combined 4.0+ goals per match (min. 15 games, regular season and playoffs).
The Galaxy's win over FC Dallas on Saturday was LA's sixth regular-season win this season, all of which have been at home. A win over Minnesota would make the Galaxy the first team with seven or more wins in a single regular season, all of which came at home, since the Portland Timbers in 2016 (12).
Minnesota's 55 league goals in 2025 are their second most in a single MLS regular season, behind their 58 scored last season. The Loons’ goal differential of +18 (55 – 37) this season would easily be their highest in a single MLS season (+10 over their 21 games in 2020).
OPTA WIN PROBABILITY
