Who Is Mika Godts? PSG's Rising Star Gets His Big Chance
With Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sidelined, a young Belgian winger has a golden opportunity to make his mark at PSG.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's serious injury has created a major problem for Paris Saint-Germain, but it could also be the breakthrough Mika Godts has been waiting for. The 21-year-old Belgian winger arrived in Paris as one of Europe's most promising young attackers. Now, he has a chance to show he belongs in the starting lineup.
Godts has already made an impression. After struggling for regular minutes early in the season, he scored his first PSG goal against Olympique Lyon and followed it up with another against Le Havre in a 5-1 victory. Those performances caught the attention of Luis Enrique, who praised both his attacking qualities and his growing commitment to defensive responsibilities.
Replacing Kvaratskhelia will be no easy task. The Georgian suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and is expected to miss the rest of the season. But Godts' early response is beginning to show why PSG invested heavily in bringing him to France.
Where Did Mika Godts Begin His Career?
Mika Godts was born on June 7, 2005, in Tienen, Belgium. He spent much of his early development in Anderlecht's youth academy, where he remained for nearly nine years before joining Genk in 2020.
His potential had already attracted attention beyond Belgium. According to scouting reports later published by Ajax, the Dutch club had been tracking Godts since his Anderlecht days. Their scouts highlighted his acceleration, close control, first touch and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations.
In January 2023, at just 17, Godts joined Ajax. He made an immediate impact on his debut for the club's reserve team, winning possession inside his own half, carrying the ball upfield and scoring against MVV Maastricht. A few months later, in April, he made his senior debut against Fortuna Sittard.

How Ajax Turned Godts Into a Star
Godts had always been regarded as a technically gifted winger, but the 2025-26 season was when his potential translated into remarkable numbers.
In the Eredivisie, he recorded 17 goals and 12 assists, establishing himself as one of the league's most productive attacking players.
His dribbling numbers were equally impressive. According to Ajax, Godts completed 85 of his 182 attempted dribbles, more successful take-ons than any other player in the Dutch top flight that season. His performances earned him the Eredivisie Talent of the Year award as well as Ajax's own Young Player of the Year recognition.
PSG moved to secure his signature in August 2026. Ajax announced a deal that could reach €55 million, while Godts signed a five-year contract through 2031. He left Amsterdam having made 115 first-team appearances and scored 26 goals.
What Makes Mika Godts So Dangerous?
Godts is a right-footed winger who is most comfortable operating on the left. From there, he can attack the outside of a defender, drive toward the byline or cut inside to shoot and combine with teammates.
His biggest weapon is his ability to beat defenders. He accelerates quickly, changes direction without losing control of the ball and is willing to take risks in tight spaces. Those qualities make him particularly dangerous against teams that defend deep and leave little room between the lines.
He also offers tactical flexibility. During his development, Godts played as a center forward, attacking midfielder and right winger. That versatility could prove valuable under Luis Enrique, whose system demands constant movement, positional exchanges and aggressive pressing.
And while his attacking talent was already well known, the PSG coach has been particularly encouraged by his willingness to work without the ball.
The challenge now is turning promising performances into consistency. Désiré Doué remains another option on the left side of PSG's attack, and competition for places is fierce.
Kvaratskhelia's absence does not guarantee Godts a starting role. What it does give him is something every young player needs: the opportunity to prove he can deliver when the pressure is on.
